About the Idaho Financial Literacy Coalition

The Idaho Financial Literacy Coalition unites financial wellness experts dedicated to igniting lasting impact across the state. We aim to empower individuals across all life stages by providing essential education on personal finance topics.

Formed in 1995, our coalition has been committed to equipping teachers in public and private schools with the skills needed to educate students in consumer economics, family and consumer sciences, business, social studies, math, and professional technical education. Expanding our reach in 1996, we began to address the needs of adult learners as well.

We launched our flagship annual event, the Piggy Bank Beauty Contest, in 2010. Any Idaho student grades 3rd – 6th is eligible to participate. Winners from all four categories; Prettiest, Funniest, Most Creative and Celebrity Look-a-like, win a 529 scholarship and prizes. All winners, their teachers and families, the Coalition board and membership, press, and distinguished guest, are invited to attend the Proclamation Signing at the Governor’s Ceremonial office declaring April as Financial Literacy Month in Idaho.

As Idaho’s affiliate of the Jump$tart Coalition for Financial Literacy since 2001, we strive to reduce financial vulnerabilities by fostering a deep understanding of financial principles related to banking, insurance, credit, and investments. Our goal is to ensure that every Idahoan is prepared to make informed financial decisions and create sustainable, long-term generational wealth.

Together, we are building a financially secure Idaho, where individuals, families, and communities thrive.

The Idaho Financial Literacy Coalition Mission Statement:
